Legacy Open Mesh: What is Lonely Mode on Open Mesh Access Points?

Question

What is Lonely Mode on Open Mesh Access Points?'

Environment

  • Open Mesh Access Points

Answer

Open Mesh Access Points enter Lonely Mode if four Internet checks in a row fail. In this case the node assumes it is operating on the wrong WiFi channel (the channel might have been changed). Normal WiFi operations are disabled.

In Lonely Mode, the node acts as a WiFi client and scans all channels to find another internet connection. Scanning all channels takes approximately 5 minutes.

The Internet Check option is only functional on devices running firmware version 6xx and below. It has no effect on devices running version 7xx and newer.

Lonely Mode indication

When in Lonely Mode, the access point's LED will blink red.
